Little Gem 2013 Shiraz
Ian & Suzanne Little only release Little Gem Shiraz in excellent years; the 2013 being only the fourth release since since 2006. The fruit is sourced from the Riverbank vineyard in the Broke-Fordwich sub-region of the Hunter Valley. These low yielding vines produce fruit ointense flavour and colour. In 2013 the grapes were harvested in early March; a range of ripeness was achieved by hand picking over a number of days. After 12 months oak maturation only the finest barrels are selected for the Little Gem label and these are matured for another 12 months allowing a perfect integration oak and fruit flavours.
The intensity of the fruit is apparent on the nose, with aromas of blackcurrant and spice. The palate is seamless and silky with voluptuous layers of fruit and oak flavours. The core of cassis and berry flavour underpins the entire structure of this wine allowing for long term cellaring.
