Little Wine Co 2024 Albarino
Albarino is an exciting variety that is well suited to the Hunter Valley. Our warm maritime growing conditions align quite closely with those of north-west Spain, the home of Albarino.
VITICULTURE
Grown in the Broke Fordwich sub-region, the vines were planted on the sandy alluvial soils of the Wollombi Brook. The grapes were hand harvested in the first week of February and being a cooler year, the grapes held their acidity beautifully.
WINEMAKING NOTES
Being the new kid in school this variety has very special treatment in the winery. The vineyard is only a few kilometres from the winery and the hand harvested grapes were transported and crushed into the press with the juice off skins and in tank within a couple of hours. The juice was fermented in tank and left on yeast lees for 8 weeks to add a little more texture.
TASTING NOTES
Made without the use of oak, this Albarino is a riot of aromas and flavours. Spice and lime collide with fruit salad culminating in a delicious, crisp minerality. Albarino is known for its bracing acidity, but the aromatic richness provides the perfect contrast, making this a delicious option for a range of richer foods like risotto, paella and pasta.
