PETER WIGGS - After a 30-year career in finance, Peter purchased the Cullarin Vineyard in 2010, the oldest vineyard in the Canberra District. He later acquired Eden Road Wines and the historic Cote d'Or vineyard in Pokolbin, where he and Iain Riggs restored 19th-century concrete vats. In 2024, he added Stanleigh Park, a renowned Hunter Valley Semillon vineyard, reflecting his dedication to NSW’s vineyard heritage.
THE WINE
After 38 years at the helm of Brokenwood, 40 years of judging including 6 years as Chair of the Sydney Royal Wine Show and 10 years as Chair of the Hunter Valley Wine Show, Iain Riggs knows a thing or two about Semillon. This first release is classic Hunter Semillon at its finest.
Semillon, the traditional white grape of the Hunter Valley, was first planted at Mangerton Vineyard by Alfred Wilkinson (father of Audrey Wilkinson) and his eldest son, Charles, in 1866. Max Drayton replanted in 1978 using cuttings from the 1899 Semillon vines on Oakey Creek Road. Block 1 is on a south facing, clay loam slope. Bright green/yellow colour, with lime and tropical fruit flavours. Perfect for long term cellaring.
